Dear Neighbor,
This week has been devastating for the people of Ukraine, and for all those who desire peace in this world. As we all know, Russia began waging its unjust war against Ukraine late Wednesday night, with millions of Ukrainians waking to bombs and violence in their communities. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s premeditated war of choice will undoubtedly bring catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.
Let’s be clear: this is an attack on democracy and the rule of law around the world. I stand, wholeheartedly, with the people of Ukraine.
Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this war will bring, and must be held accountable. As we watch this horrific tragedy unfold, the United States and our allies and partners will make sure Russia pays a steep price for what it has done to the people of Ukraine.
While the United States continues to explore all options to hold Russia accountable, it’s critical for residents of the Hudson Valley – watching, reading, and hearing about this war – to check in on each other and support our Ukrainian friends in whatever way we can. To those who have family, friends, or loved ones in Ukraine right now, please know that my heart is with you during this incredibly difficult time.
If you or someone you know are in Ukraine right now, the State Department is advising you to leave immediately if possible. If not, the recommendation is to follow any state of emergency measures imposed. Most importantly, if assistance is needed:
- Complete the Department of State’s online assistance form
- Call: +1 606 260 4379 outside the U.S.
- Call: +1 833 741 2777 from the U.S.
- Email: [email protected]

As always, my office is here to serve you. If you or your family need assistance with a federal agency or help related to COVID-19, please call my office at (914) 323-5550.
