TRUMP INDICTMENT IS A TESTAMENT TO THE PRINCIPLE THAT NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW
The grand jury indictment of former president Donald Trump is a testament to the bedrock American principle that no one is above the law.
Trump’s hush money payment to silence Stormy Daniels a month prior to the 2016 presidential election was an effort to subvert the democratic process— a move out of his authoritarian playbook that we’ve seen play out time and time again over the past several years.
Politically motivated and coordinated attacks by Republicans on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg are designed to undermine our system of justice and have a chilling effect on prosecutors working to do what they were elected to do — uphold the law. These attacks, along with Trump’s calls for riots, are even more dangerous at a time when domestic extremist rhetoric has spiked ahead of Trump’s arrest.
Trump is the subject of multiple criminal investigations spanning several jurisdictions. But for now, it is our responsibility as patriotic Americans to let the justice system play out inside the Manhattan courtroom. This must happen without interference by Trump and his Republican allies, who aim to weaken our democracy and undermine the rule of law.
