NOVEMBER 19, 2021 Less than one week after President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal into law, the United States House of Representatives passed President Biden’s Build Back Better Act, moving the bill one step closer to becoming law. The Build Back Better Act will cut costs for families, create jobs, and keep the economic recovery going. In response, New York State Democratic Party Chair Jay S. Jacobs released the following statement: “President Biden and Democrats took a monumental step to once again deliver for the middle class. No thanks to a single Republican in the House, the Build Back Better Act will lower costs for working families, create good-paying jobs, and cut taxes — all without adding a cent to the debt. These investments are exactly what Americans voted for when they took to the polls to elect President Biden, and the United States Senate should move quickly to get President Biden’s Build Back Better Act across the finish line.” The Build Back Better Act will deliver for New York State by: Cutting taxes for working families: This bill will extend the expanded Child Tax Credit increases of up to $300 per month per child and provide a tax cut of up to $1,500 for 982,700 low-wage workers in New York State. Lowering health care costs: Closing the Medicaid coverage gap to help millions of Americans gain health insurance, extend through 2025 the American Rescue Plan’s health insurance premium reductions for those who buy coverage on their own, and help older Americans access affordable hearing care by expanding Medicare. Lowering child care & family care costs: This legislation will provide access to child care for about 1 million young children per year from families earning under 2.5 times the New York State median income, ensuring these families pay no more than 7% of their income on high-quality child care. It will also expand access to free, high-quality preschool to more than 297,920 additional 3- and 4-year-olds per year and increase the quality of preschool for children who are already enrolled. Making the largest investment to combat the climate crisis in history: cutting pollution, reducing energy costs, creating good-paying jobs with a transformational investment to ensure America leads the clean energy economy. ### |
