Description

Join the Hudson Valley News Guild for a town hall to discuss the crisis in local news and how Gannett journalists are fighting to fix it.

Journalists from The Journal News/lohud, The Times Herald-Record, and The Poughkeepsie Journal will look at how years of corporate cutbacks by Gannett – the nation’s largest newspaper chain – have hurt their ability to cover bread-and-butter issues in their communities. Gannett’s disinvestment from local coverage has all but assured that these three historic newspapers have no viable future.

Local elected officials and community leaders will join journalists to talk about how Gannett’s mismanagement has hurt communities up and down the Hudson Valley. Featured guests include Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.
